UNA-Atlanta and Georgia State University Collaborate to Address Ethiopian Community's Needs

ATLANTA — ​The United Nations Association of the United States of America, Atlanta Chapter (UNA-Atlanta), in collaboration with Georgia State University's Center for Studies on Africa and Its Diaspora, joined an event addressing the current situation in Ethiopia and the support extended by the Atlanta community.

Tracy Gray, a UNA-Atlanta Chapter Board of Directors member and Vice President of Advocacy, calls for actively fostering positive relationships and support for the Ethiopian community in Metro Atlanta. Gray joined the United Nations call, and their dedication to advocacy and community engagement has played a pivotal role in bridging gaps and assisting refugees and immigrants from Ethiopia.

Atlanta has been at the forefront of addressing the concerns of refugees and immigrants from Ethiopia, exemplifying the city's commitment to inclusivity and humanitarian efforts. The local community, led by Tracy Gray and others, has shown remarkable compassion and support for those affected by the current situation in Ethiopia.

Gelila Assefa Puck, the keynote speaker, an Ethiopian native, and partner/global creative director at The Wolfgang Puck Group of Companies, expressed her admiration for the efforts of Georgia State University's Center for Studies on Africa and Its Diaspora. In particular, she applauds the event, "Ethiopia, Memories of Home: Revolution, Refuge, and Renewal," presented by the center. Ms. Puck emphasizes fostering understanding and awareness about Ethiopia's history, challenges, and resilience.

The event featured an address by a prominent speaker, Dr. Yohannes Gedamu, Senior Lecturer of Political Science Georgia Gwinnett College, featured in the enlightening series, "An Evening With." Attendees had the opportunity to gain insights into the current situation in Ethiopia and how local and global communities can contribute to positive change.

"I am thrilled to support the efforts of Georgia State University and the UNA-USA Atlanta Chapter in raising awareness about the challenges faced by the Ethiopian community," said Gelila Assefa Puck.
"Events like 'Ethiopia, Memories of Home' foster understanding, empathy, and collaboration. It's heartening to see the commitment of the Atlanta community to making a difference."

​The event was meaningful and impactful, bringing together diverse voices to address the Ethiopian community’s challenges and explore avenues for support and collaboration.

International Visitors Explore NGO Management in Atlanta

ATLANTA — ​The Georgia Council for International Visitors (GCIV) sponsored international visitors who visited Atlanta this week to comprehensively explore non-governmental organization (NGO) management. Tracy Gray, Vice President of Advocacy for the United Nations Association of the United States of America, Atlanta Chapter (UNA-Atlanta), and national and global Management Consultant Eileen Gray led a distinguished panel discussion that included seven countries' NGOs, human rights, and nonprofit leaders.

Under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, the conference focused on strategies for driving NGO awareness, effective fundraising, and best practices for navigating divergent social demands and interests when confronting political, social, and economic challenges.

Gray, also a UNA-Atlanta Board of Directors member, expressed the importance of collaboration and shared insights into the ever-evolving landscape of NGO management. The day-long conference, organized by the Georgia Council for International Visitors, provided a platform for exchanging ideas among international visitors and their American counterparts.

  • United Kingdom: Mr. Trevor MACFARLANE, Founding Director, Culture Commons

The conference facilitated meaningful discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing NGOs globally. Participants shared their experiences, insights, and innovative approaches to address the complex issues surrounding human rights, advocacy, and social impact.

This collaborative initiative reflects the commitment of the U.S. Department of State and the GCIV to foster international dialogue and cooperation on critical issues. The participants left with a deeper understanding of NGO management, strengthened connections, and a shared commitment to advancing positive change in their communities.
