Context: The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and mental well-being are related. The Global Goals highlight the various factors that can contribute to a sustainable world which includes mental fitness. If the 17 Global Goals were achieved, fewer people will experience mental health challenges, leading to more opportunities for education, economic growth and building sustainable communities. For example, climate change is bringing on more frequent and severe weather. Those affected by natural disasters can have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, impacting their ability to reach their fullest potential in all applications of life. The financial stress that is caused by climate related disasters can impact a person’s ability to reach their educational endeavors, career goals, and family life. To achieve mental fitness and resiliency, individuals will certainly have to work on their own mental well-being, but societies are also responsible for creating a world that fosters citizens who are mentally strong and resilient.

  • What does a mentally strong and resilient world look like to you?
  • Climate change is affecting everyone’s physical and mental well-being. How has it affected you?
  • Violations of a person’s human rights can greatly impact a person’s physical and mental well-being. What can you do for your local community to provide a safe and respectful place for people to live in?
  • If you could choose only one Global Goal that will have the most impact in creating Mentally Strong and Resilient communities, which one would it be? Why?
  • When you perform community service (ie. delivering food to the elderly, picking up trash on the streets, fundraising for a charity, etc.), how does that make you feel? Would you want to tell others about your experience? If yes, what would you say?
  • What kind of changes do you wish to see in schools and/or communities regarding mental healthcare and current situations in the U.S.(mass shootings, suicides, etc.)?
  • When you have a bad day, what do you do to keep moving forward? What makes you happy?

3. You can send your video via email or Google Drive link to education@una-atl.org by January 20, 2023. Please state in the subject line: VOY2022 video submission. In the text of the email, please include
  • Your first and last name
  • City, state, country (if outside the US)

Why are the Voices of Youth 2022 crucial?

The Voices of Youth 2022 video will let individuals, community leaders, educators…everyone get a glimpse of the various perspectives that youth across Atlanta and beyond have on mental health! By becoming aware of the relationship between mental fitness and the Global Goals, more informed decisions can be made to create accessible and effective mental healthcare. The video will be used in a speaker series providing resources and insights into caring for youth mental health, building a solid and fit mind, and overcoming life’s challenges as part of UNA-Atlanta and RCE Greater Atlanta’s Sustainable Coffee Talk series. All youth, educators, counselors, parents, and guardians are invited to participate in the free online speaker series.

This campaign supports Sustainable Development Goals 3: Good Health and Well-being, hoping to reduce stress and uplift youths. The Voices of Youth 2022 promotes Target 3.4 of Global Goal 3, which states, "by 2030, reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by one-third through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.”
What will the Voices of Youth 2022 achieve?

Voices of Youth 2022 aims to cultivate meaningful communication between youth and their parents, guardians, and caretakers. We hope to inspire the youth and their caring adult family and friends to routinely check in on each other’s mental fitness, offering the youth insights to understanding their feelings, how to cope with challenges, realizing how their mental burdens are shared by many and that they don’t have to be alone when it comes to achieving mental fitness.
