On September 12, 2026, I was honored to represent the United Nations Association of the United States of America, Atlanta Chapter (UNA-Atlanta), and deliver remarks celebrating the outstanding recipients of the Global Sustainability Awards (GSA) in Atlanta.
The occasion was especially meaningful because it gave me an opportunity to recognize individuals who are not simply talking about a better future—they are helping create it through action, innovation, leadership, and service. Their work reflects the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and reminds us that addressing global challenges requires individuals and communities willing to turn ideas into meaningful action.
I also spoke about the importance of inspiring young people to see themselves as changemakers. The GSA vision of creating 100 million changemakers over the next decade is a powerful reminder that transformation begins when someone chooses to step forward, take responsibility, and make a difference.
To every award recipient: your example matters. Your leadership matters. And your actions can inspire others to believe that a more sustainable and peaceful world is possible.
Congratulations to all of the 2026 honorees. Local action truly can create global impact.
The conversation continued beyond the stage. Watch the interview below for more reflections from the 2026 Global Sustainability Awards.
