UNA-ATL members gather at Manuel's Tavern on Earth Day to watch the powerful film Common Ground

Thank you to Iesha Baldwin, Vice President of Membership, and longtime UNA-ATL member Molly Read Woo for leading the Atlanta chapter’s Earth Day community events, including the Wall-E and Common Ground movie screenings. We also thank the Joan P. Garner Library at Ponce De Leon and Manuel’s Tavern, for their generosity in hosting our two Earth Day screening events.
WALL-E, an animated film produced by Pixar, was visually compelling and emotionally engaging. It emphasized the beauty of the ground we walk on, regenerative soil life, and the urgent threats it faces. It foreshadowed the future of our planet resulting from air, water, and ground pollution and the importance of preserving farm and urban ecosystems.

After the films WALL-E and Common Ground, Iesha and Molly facilitated a discussion that challenged the audience to consider the impact of our consumption habits and the role of policy in protecting natural resources. We appreciate Iesha's ongoing commitment to clean water, environmental stewardship, and educating others.
Common Ground showcases the power of farm leadership in environmental advocacy. The documentary addresses the intersection of farming, climate change, and social justice. Molly highlighted the disproportionate impact of ecological soil degradation on marginalized communities. The film is also currently streaming on Prime Video.
During the open discussion, attendees were encouraged to reflect on the systemic inequalities that amplify environmental harm and to take action to address those disparities. With real-life examples, the UNA-ATL members and community members communicated with passion and clarity about how they would personally create an inclusive space for meaningful dialogue and action in the future.
Together, Iesha, Molly, and everyone who attended our Earth Day events exemplified our power to generate practical solutions through impactful community conversations. We raised awareness about the future of our planet and inspired participants to commit to more sustainable and equitable environmental practices in their communities.
