Clarkston Career Information Fair | Sept. 14, 2016

The Clarkston Career Information Fair’s mission is to expose students and job seekers to careers in government, the private and non-private sectors, and academic programs to prepare them for such careers, as well as to create local awareness of career and industry skills needed to produce globally competitive citizens. The event will include: welcoming remarks by Mayor Ted Terry; a panel discussion, Living In Clarkston: A Local Perspective, with J.D. McCrary, Executive Director of the International Rescue Committee Atlanta, Lauren Brocket, Friends of Refugees, Dr. Pranaya Rana, refugee advocate, Dr. Paul McDaniel, Kennesaw State University; a presentation by Colonel Christopher Holshek of The National Service Ride: In Search of American Identity; and a photo exhibit, Community Dynamics in Clarkston: A Photovoice Project.
 
The event is free and open to the public. Inspired by retired Army Colonel Christopher Holshek's book, Travels with Harley – Journeys in Search of Personal and National Identity, the National Service Ride leverages motorcycling's appeal to freedom, adventure, and moving forward to promote citizenship and service, starting right at home. “When we become better citizens, we become a better country – because, when you serve your community, you serve your country."
During this event, Col. Holshek himself, will present how to make community, public, and national service a cultural expectation, a common opportunity, and a civic rite of passage for every American by promoting engagement, collaboration and unity.

Hiroshima Observance Day: Film Screening of Hiroshima Bound

Join us Thursday, August 4, 2016 for the viewing and intimate discussion of the film, Hiroshima Bound, a personal documentary by Director Marty Lucas that tracks the construction of America’s collective memory of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Lucas will take you on a journey, through his own efforts as a visual artist, to understand his relation to the Bomb, following the complex histories of specific images and image makers, both Japanese and American, as they intertwine with the stories of survivors and his own legacy as a child of the Atomic Age.

Following the film, Director Marty Lucas will join us via Skype to discuss his inspiration behind the films creation.
